Clubs and Connections
"Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire." - W.B. Yeats
Athens Renaissance is committed to the development of the whole student at every age. Opportunities for socialization and student engagement are available for students in grades K-12.
Structured clubs offer opportunities to participate with other students with similar interests. Clubs offer valuable experiences for personal growth and character development for our students. Whatever your child's interests, we believe they should have the chance to discover a meaningful way to connect with other students who share common interests and experiences.
We are a community connected by education. We invite you to be a part of our community.
Explore the opportunities to connect through clubs, organizations and activities now.
Renaissance Robotics
Are you interested in Engineering, CAD, Programming, Graphic Design, Video Production and/or Marketing? Then join our team of innovators in Renaissance Robotics! The ARS FIRST Robotics Competition Team # 538 is compromised of 9th-12th grade students from Athens City Schools. FIRST is a non-profit organization dedicated to getting students involved in science, math, engineering and technology. Each year, out team designs, constructs, and programs a robot to perform a series of assigned tasks while engaging in outreach activities with the goal of inspiriting our community to get excited about STEM. Typically, our schedule is lighter in the fall and heavy in the spring. We will meet regularly throughout the year, and we have periodic outreach/fundraising events, field trips, and meetings with sponsors as well that are and will be scheduled throughout the year. We find out the new robot game/challenge in early January 2025. After that release, we will meeting 3-5 days per week to ensure that we have the time needed to design, build, program, and test our robot before we compete in March and April. We do not at all expect all students to attend every single meeting. It's not feasible or sustainable. We will offer a lot of meeting opportunities to get the students ample time to work, but students are just expected to be there when they can. Also, there are several team projects that can be completed remotely throughout the year. We will compete in the Rocket City Regional in Huntsville in the spring. In addition, we hope to compete in an additional Regional somewhere in the southeast in the spring. We could possibly get invited to the World Championship in late April as well.
